How do you choose the right dining chair?
You buy a dining chair for years to come. Check these four things before you choose.
Measure the space under your tabletop. Measure from the floor to the underside of the tabletop. Compare this with the seat height of the chair, which you can find in the specifications of every model. If you sit too low, you will have to reach up to your plate. If you sit too high, your knees will hit the tabletop.
Look at the width of the chair. This varies by model and is listed for every product. Divide the length of your table by the number of places you want, then you will know how much space each chair can take up.
Pay attention to the table legs. Do you want to slide the chairs between the legs of your table? Then measure the space between them and compare it with the width of the chair. With a chair with armrests, this is where things often go wrong.
Think about how it will be used. Do you eat here every day with the family, or mainly on Sundays? That determines your choice more than the color.
Not sure? Our interior stylists will be happy to talk it through with you.
With or without armrests
Armrests make long tables much more comfortable. Your shoulders drop, you sit relaxed, and the chair visually has more body at the table. You do need a chair that fits under your tabletop.
Do you prefer to keep it compact, or do you have a full table with six or eight places? Then dining chairs without armrests are easier to slide in and out. A nice middle ground: two chairs with armrests at the ends of the table and the rest without. This way you get character without losing space.
Swivel or fixed base
A swivel dining chair turns as you sit down or stand up. That sounds like a detail, but in an open kitchen or at a table against the wall, it really makes a difference. You don't have to move the chair, you just turn it a quarter turn. The Tokyo is a nice example of that.
Prefer peace and a classic line? A fixed base stands stable and looks sleeker under the table. We offer both variants with a base in wood or in black, so you can match it to your table.
Fabric, leather or wood
Material largely determines the look of your chair, and also how much maintenance you put into it.
Fabric dining chairs are the softest and warmest. You can choose from our fabric collection, from fine bouclé to velour, and you decide the color yourself. Come feel the fabrics in the store or ask for samples, because you cannot see the difference in texture in a photo.
Leather dining chairs get more beautiful with the years. Leather gets patina, wipes clean easily and suits a bold, understated interior. We work with genuine leather and with faux leather, so you can make your own choice between character and budget.
Wooden dining chairs give a table air. The Malmo is a good example of that: a wooden frame with a modern line that does not fill up your dining room. Do you want wood and seating comfort, then choose a model with an upholstered seat.
Choosing color and upholstery
Color determines the tone in the house. A dining chair in beige or taupe lets your table do the work and fits in almost any interior. Black gives contrast and calm. And do you dare more? Green, pink or ochre yellow make your chairs the accent in the room.
You assemble your chair yourself: first the model, then the fabric, then the color of the base. Do you really want to see the colors before you choose? Ask for color samples in the store, or take them home.
Japandi, Scandinavian or design
Are you looking for a dining chair that fits a specific style, then you are in good company with us.
Chair in Japandi style: the serene simplicity of Japanese design combined with the warm functionality of Scandinavian design. Calm, understated, and just enough.
Do you love Scandinavian? Then you look at the light wooden frames and soft shapes. Are you looking for something more expressive, then our design dining chairs with a sculptural shell or a striking backrest are what you need.
Sitting comfortably at the table
Comfortable dining chairs are not necessarily the most thickly padded. It is in the shape.
A high backrest supports your entire back and is nice if you stay at the table for a long time. A shell chair actually encloses you, which gives a cozy, secure way of sitting. Seat depth also matters: too deep and you sink in, too shallow and you sit on the edge.
This is exactly the part that you cannot read from a photo. Sit down before you choose.
Combining your chairs with your dining table
With a beautiful table, the right chairs belong. Choose dining table chairs that follow the shape of your tabletop: a round or oval table asks for soft, round lines, a rectangular table can handle sleeker chairs.
You don't have to make everything the same. Mix our dining chairs with each other, or place a dining bench on one side. That saves space, is cozy and gives your table character immediately. Are you still looking for a table? Then take a look at our custom-made dining tables, then we can put the whole thing together at once.
Frequently asked questions about dining chairs
How do I know if a dining chair fits my table?
Measure the distance from your floor to the underside of your tabletop and compare it with the seat height of the chair. Seat height and width vary by model and are listed in the specifications of every product.
Do dining chairs with armrests fit under my table?
That depends on the height of the armrest and the space under your tabletop. Measure that space and compare it with the armrest height of the model you have in mind.
What is the delivery time of a dining chair?
The delivery time varies by model and is listed for every product on the website. If you order multiple products, we try to deliver everything in one delivery. You can also pick it up yourself, in Almere.
Are the chairs assembled at home?
No. We deliver to every Dutch address and assemble most furniture on site, but chairs and TV cabinets are excluded from that.
Can I exchange or return a chair?
Chairs that you have assembled yourself, with a fabric, color or version chosen by you, cannot be exchanged or returned. Therefore, first try sitting in one of our home stores, then you will know exactly where you stand.
Can I try the chairs first?
