Materials & Care: Tables

Solid oak / Oak veneer

What is the difference between solid oak and oak veneer?
A solid oak tabletop is made entirely of solid oak. An oak veneer top has a top layer of real oak. Brushing the wood makes the table less susceptible to scratches.

Please bear in mind that wood can react to differences in temperature and humidity.

Humidity can become extremely low during the heating season, which can cause slight cracking. In that case, a small pan of water or a radiator humidifier filled with water on the heating or stove can be an effective solution. A virtually constant humidity of around 55% is considered a healthy living climate for all wooden furniture and for people themselves.

Both tabletops are finished with a two-component lacquer that protects against everyday stains such as coffee, tea and wine.

Care: Wipe the top with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Use a mild, pH-neutral cleaning agent and avoid abrasive products. We always recommend using coasters and wiping up spills immediately.

Melamine

A melamine top consists of a synthetic top layer on a sturdy core. Suitable for everyday use.

Care: Clean the top with a soft cloth and lukewarm water. For stains you can use a pH-neutral all-purpose cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads.

Please note: be careful with knives, scissors and other sharp objects, such as porcelain dishes with pointed parts, to avoid damage.

HPL

HPL (High Pressure Laminate) consists of several layers pressed together under high pressure into a very strong and durable top. This material is extremely well suited to more intensive everyday use.

Care: You can easily clean the top with a soft cloth and water. For stubborn stains you may use a mild cleaning agent. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Please note: with HPL, too, we advise you to be careful with sharp objects such as knives, scissors and dishes with pointed edges, to avoid scratches.

Fenix
Fenix is a type of HPL with a luxurious, matt nano surface and a soft, silky look. This modern material has been specially developed for everyday use. A big advantage is that light micro-scratches can often be reduced.

Care: Clean the top with a microfibre cloth and lukewarm water. Only use mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents. Avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents. Superficial scratches can often be reduced with a special sponge (magic sponge). Always use this sponge dry and make sure the top is completely dry before you start.

Ceramic

Ceramic tops are made from fired clay. This creates an extremely strong and compact surface. Ceramic is the most scratch-resistant material.

On a gloss top, scratches may be more noticeable because of the gloss layer; this is normal and part of the material.

Care: Clean the top with a soft cloth and lukewarm water. Only use pH-neutral cleaning agents and avoid aggressive degreasers and abrasive cleaners. Ceramic is highly resistant to red wine and grease stains. For stubborn stains you can clean the top with a solution of warm water and washing-up liquid.
